GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION

Entry Regulations & Health

All visitors require a valid passport. Except for stateless persons and those from countries with which the Philippines has no diplomatic relations, all visitors may enter the country without visas and may stay for 21 days provided they have tickets for onward journey. Holders of Hong Kong and Taiwan passports must have special permits. Visas and special permits maybe obtained from Philippine embassies and consulates. A certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is required for travelers coming from infected areas. Children less than one year old are exempted but may be subject to isolation when necessary.

Customs & Currency

Visitors are advised to fill in the Baggage Declaration Form before disembarking to facilitate Customs examination. Visitors carrying more than US$3,000 are to declare the amount at the Central Bank of the Philippines counter situated at the Customs area. Foreign currency taken out upon departure must not exceed the amount brought in. Departing passengers are not allowed to bring out more than Php1,000 in local currency. Unit of currency: Peso (P) = 100 centavos. Bank notes: P10, P20, P50, P100, P200, P500, P1,000. Coins 5c, 10c, 25c, P1, P5, P10.

Airport Facilities & Fees

The international airports have adequate traveler faclities: tourist information and assistance counters, hotel & travel agency representatives, banks & ATMs, postal service, telephone booths and medical clinics, among others. Baggage carts and porter services are available for free. Airport Fees Departure fees are charged at both international and domestic (paid in Philippine pesos only) airports. Departing passengers for international destinations are advised to check with airport or tourist information counters for information on departure charges. The Time Zone is GMT plus 8 hours

Information and Assistance Centers

Business Hours

Private and government offices are open from 8am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. Some private companies hold office on Saturdays from 9am to 12noon. Most shops are open from 9am to 7pm while restaurants are open from 9am until 10pm.

Banks and Foreign Exchange

Banks are open from 9am to 3pm on Mondays to Fridays. A number of banks handle travelers cheques and currency exchange. Visitors are required to present their passport and photocopy of the purchase receipt when encashing travelers cheques.

Credit Cards

International credit cards such as Visa, Diners Club, Mastercard, and American Express Card are accepted in major establishments.

Medical & Emergency Facilities

There are 3 main hospitals (1 public and 2 private hospitals) and a substantial number of clinics.

Police Assistance

Police assistance is provided 24 hours a day. Tarabiangan Centers (Outpost) are strategically located in the city center.

Electricity

Electricity runs 24-hours and is on a 220 volt, 60 cycle system.

Communication Facilities, Internet, and Postal Services

Four telecommunications companies provide international and national direct dialing telephone, telegraph and facsimile services. Public call stations are mostly located along Rizal Avenue. Most accommodation establishments provide international and national direct dialing telephone services.

There are also a number of internet cafes open from 8am to 10pm.

In addition to the government's postal network, a number of cargo forwarders provide air parcel and freight services.
